VICTOR HALL REDEDICATION APRIL 11
Savannah, GA--Armstrong Atlantic State University will host a rededication
ceremony for Victor Hall on April 11. The event will begin at 10:30 A.M. in the lobby of Victor Hall and will be followed by a brunch
reception for invited guests in room 141 (adjacent to the lobby).
Participants will include Thomas Z. Jones, president of AASU, Dr. Irving
Victor, Kim West, assistant dean of admissions and registrar, and representative
Neil Dawson, Dawson & Wissmach Architects. Speakers will
describe the design of the building and how the contemporary features
have impacted the registration and financial aid processes.
"The organization of the building gives students ready access to
all of the necessary information they need to register, add and drop
classes, make payments for tuition, and review courses on-line,"
said West. "This has eliminated the need to stand in long lines
for the same information."
Housed in Victor Hall are the following departments: Registrar and Admissions,
Veterans Affairs, Faculty Services, Adult Academic Services, Graduate
Enrollment, Videoconferencing Services, Sponsored Programs, Academic
Assistance, and Information Technology. Tours will be offered for those
who wish to see the rest of the building, including displays mounted
in the upstairs lobby.
Originally dedicated in 1969, Victor Hall was named for Irving Victor's wife, Mrs. Terry Victor. Mrs. Victor was one of the founders of Savannah Visitors' Service and co-authored a book for tourists, "Sojourn in Savannah," which is considered the most definitive book on the subject. An oil painting of Mrs. Victor will be unveiled during the ceremony by President Jones. A brass plaque indicating the dates of the original dedication (April 22, 1969) and the rededication will be mounted beneath the painting.
Victor Hall
originally housed one of the college's largest programs, teacher education,
and the history and psychology departments. One-third of the students
graduating from Armstrong State College earned their degrees in teacher
education at the time the building was originally dedicated.
